a little scene I animated for Wulfie - end credits
In the past weeks I've been animating on a tv series development called "Wulfie". It's a very cute show about a young girl who finds she shares her room with the 'big bad wolf' from the fairytales... The rough animation on the trailer has been done between myself, Alfredo and my friend Tom Caulfield on wacom tablets. We used Flash, but in a very traditional way - basically frame by frame with the brush tool. I have to say it's been fun! I was very interested in testing this technique more deeply, and it turned out to be very handy and quick. The rough animation we provided will then be cleaned up and painted with another software.
This will be more less the final look of the show.

Ale! EEEEEE Wulfie is SO CUUUUTE...I love the way he looks in the concept design - so resigned with the little girl hanging onto his tail like a fur boa.
I definitely want to see more of Wulfie. And yes, my goldfish are VERY FAT. Given the amount they eat I am so not surprised...

Ahah thanks Shuku!
Wulfie can actually be small and cute or big and protective, according to the situation.
The tiny one is so enjoyable to animate ;)
Brava Aleina-san! I knew I had the next "Glenda" Keane as friend! I'm so proud of you... I can hardly draw a smiley!
Very cute indeed .
Great stuff.
Cheers .
looks awesome!!!

belliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnnoooooooooooooooooooo
This is soooooooo sweet Ale!
I love the animation!! It is very simple, but we can really feel them boucing and having fun!
aooooow! :-)
Adorei teu blog!! ficou muito bom.
cucciolosa!
che bello vedere ancora qualcosa di animato da italiani!
Massimoo!! Dai grazie..ma io mi accontenavo anche di Aleina-san! :D
Simon, thank you for your words, it's always great to hear from you!
Jay, how are you my friend? You know Alf and I became "Marco" addicted? It's all your fault! ;)
Barro', ma grazie caro :) Alla fine comunque la lasagna ce la siamo scofanata da soli!
Genevieve! Thank you so much for your lovely comment, I'm very glad you enjoyed it! I promise I'll post more of that. Stay well my dear! ;)
Willy, I'm not sure I got it right but I guess it's good :D Thanks!
Max, grazie..e' un piacere per me. Peccato che queste cose, seppur semplicissime, in Italia non ce le fanno fa'. Comunque ne postero' presto altre!
Un abbraccio.. :)
wow funny, cute :)
great great great. this is how to work in future I am sure of it. Even not cleaned up this looks gorgeous and just as appealing as i drawn on paper. Did you find it more efficient?Easier or harder than Brendan paper animation?
Hey Tomm, thanks for that.
I think it's definitely a good way to work. It's obviously a different feel than using paper but it's easy to draw and so quick to make changes. You can explore different ways to animate an action without having to redraw hundreds of drawings or turn into eraser crumbles something that might have been useful later.. that way you can spend the time you saved pushing your scene a little more or just taking an icecream break :)
Files have been easy to handle (no scanner, yay!) and I agree with you about the rough line, I think it can look good even if not cleaned up (but it's just personal taste and of course it depends on style of the project, production budget and so on)..
So final verdict is very good. Now let's save 2d! ;D
OK wow! I'm floored by your blog. Give me a minute to catch my breathe. Those environments for the "KELLS" film are stunning.
Great job,
Joe and Elio
I love it!!! I'm wondering if you timed out the wolf landing a beat before the girl to see what that would look like. Regardless, I think this came out great!!!
Go 2D!!! errr a,,, I mean Flash!!!!
*R
Hehe I tried that too Rob. I finally kept this version as it looked sillier in some way... :D
Thanks for you comment!
that is delightful. yes, alredo's and your own sickly sweet style really shines out. I feel physically sick looking at it and the nausea just grows whenever I think about it, culminating in a savage hurl all over my handmade italian loafers and people of the bus. Now my shoes smell of gnochi all day every day. Yeah that is really some skill you have. Everybody else seems to have missed this terrible terrible quality in it.... i can only guess they were suckered in by your big eyes and alredos heroic hair doo.
All the best to you and yer fella
hellooo!! OOOh! I love the animation! it's soooo sweet and cute being so simple!! jijiji!! beautiful!!! yeah, you're right... direct flash animation works pretty ok. drawings have a nice look and it's possible to animate in the traditional way with real time line test... it's fun. Thanks for your visit!
Wow Alessandra, that looks awesome! Traditional animation in Flash works perfect. It would be very pretty and unique if you could get the painterly colorstyle in the image below. Good luck, Looks great!!!
You have some really nice work here. My compliments. Keep up the good work. I'm looking forward to see more.
I love how this turned out! Very appealing.

Keep well my fluffy friend!
wow, this likes like a really nice show! The method you're using gives it a more traditional feel than most flash stuff out there, really nice.
Best of luck with the show, sounds like a good idea!

Jeroen, thank you so much!
Gabriele, grazie mille. E io adoro gli animaletti che stanno sul tuo blog :)
That little bit of animation is so darling (not to sound effeminate). Your overall sketches are awesome, like the quickies of the Via Pietro Micca. Amazing life drawings too!
Tom Caulfield also done some great stuff.
Also, that's great you work on Skunk Fu! Really nice character design work!
Thank you very much for everything Richard! :)
ohh beautiful!! mi piace molto!!! :)
Great animation, appealing designs & neat concept. I hope this show gets picked up & proves successful.
